About
Spartans Basketball Academy is a fun and 'All Inclusive' Basketball Academy in Kingston upon Thames, Epsom, Merton and Elmbridge in Surrey, providing an outstanding sporting outlet for girls and boys of ALL abilities in School Years 1-13 and adults. Spartans Basketball Academy was founded in 2016 by Head of PE, Former GB International Athlete and Basketball England 'All Girls' Ambassador, Wayne Martin. We teach and empower children to conduct themselves with dignity and integrity, to persevere through adversity and compete with pride while developing a commitment to teamwork, our Academy and their community. At Spartans we deliver fun, active and constructive coaching sessions that focus on children developing their skill, improving their confidence and encouraging teamwork where every child feels valued. During Lockdown our sessions were online enabling children to maintain their fitness levels and mental wellbeing. Our evening and weekend sessions take place at various venues around Kingston, Epsom, Merton, Richmond and beyond. We also deliver basketball programmes to Primary and Secondary Schools as part of their PE lessons and Extra Curricular Clubs. Basketball is an incredible sport on so many levels, and it's imperative that the fundamentals are coached and practiced correctly from the offset. Each training session is devised to give our Spartans the most amount of time possible handling a basketball, whether they are a complete beginner or an experienced player. We focus on recognising faults children make (fault recognition) and instantly correct these faults (fault correction) making our players improve at a faster rate. When you train as a Spartan, you will always be active! Those who join us become part of the 'Spartans family' - we look after each other, encourage one another and work as a team no matter what your level, age or experience.
