Coaching Experience

Hi, My name is Morris Smith, but most young athletes call me Coach Mo. I am the founder and Head Coach of 5 Out Basketball Academy. I bring more than 25 years’ experience playing basketball and 15 years’ experience coaching young athletes. I fell in love with basketball at the age of five years old and began playing competitively at the age of seven. In my hometown of St. Louis, MO, I played four years of varsity basketball at Hazelwood Central High School. By my senior year, I had scored more than 1000 points, ranked #5 amongst high school players in the state, and nominated to be a McDonalds All American player. After high school, I went on earn a full athletic scholarship to play NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball at the University of Texas - San Antonio (UTSA). My basketball career at UTSA ended just one win shy of making it to the NCAA Tournament. In my last season, I was named leading scorer and received All Conference Honorable Mention. In my spare time (you guessed it), I enjoy playing pick-up and competitive basketball. I also like spending time with my family and teaching my daughters the game.
