Coaching Experience
DANIEL MAKEPEACE Daniel has been in the skills training industry for 14 years. He began Pure Intensity Basketball in 2008 while living in Bend, Oregon. In 2010, he moved back to the Twin Cities and began building what is now one of the most well known and respected training companies in the Upper Midwest. To date, he has trained 90+ players that have received scholarships to NCAA Division 1 or Division 2 schools and 100+ players that have played at the NCAA Division 3 and NAIA levels. He has worked with 95+ high school programs and 25+ youth programs from the Upper Midwest. Daniel also has a successful coaching resume. From 2013-2015, he served as Varsity Assistant for the Eastview girls basketball team. While on staff at Eastview, the team went 61-3, winning the 2014 State Championship at the 4A level while compiling a 31-1 record. In 2015, Eastview finished 30-2 and placed 2nd in the State Tournament, losing to nationally ranked Hopkins 60-68. From 2017-2019, Daniel joined the Robbinsdale Cooper girls basketball staff, again serving as Varsity Assistant. Cooper won the 2018 3A State Championship, finishing the season 30-2. His second year at Cooper, they finished a respectful 4th place in State. Currently, Daniel serves as a Varsity Assistant for the girls basketball team at Providence Academy, joining the staff in 2021. In his first year at PA, the team finished 29-4 and won the 2022 2A State Championship. The following season, PA finished 30-2 and won the 2023 2A State Championship. Daniel’s unique experiences as both a skills coach and team coach allow him to better serve his clients and the programs he works with. Doing both gives him a better understanding of what works and what doesn’t work; what to focus on and emphasize and what to omit.
Session Plan
Our goal is to produce fundamentally sound basketball players who play hard, understand the game, and are capable of competing at a national level. We work with all age groups, boys and girls, with a variety of skill levels ranging from beginner to advanced. We teach the same shot mechanics, ball handling, offensive moves and positioning, and defensive fundamentals and footwork that are taught to today’s collegiate and professional athletes. We strive to assist every athlete that participates in our program to reach their full potential as a basketball player. We aim to inspire and motivate our athletes to set lofty goals then work hard to achieve them. Our approach to this process includes intense, innovative skill development training of the body and mind, becoming a student of the game and understanding that the best way to reach your final destination is through persistence, discipline, and commitment to the process. Basketball players are made, not born. We don’t dispute some are given better genetic tools to work with, but nobody is born with a jumpshot or a killer crossover, those skills are earned over time. Remember – there is no microwave success.
